Sony kv-32s42 needs help.Tuner problems?

I'm receiving snow and the channels in the upper right hand corner continously evolve from 1-99.

By luck or through persistantly turning the tv on and off I can eventually get a local channel ( I'm on an antanae}, and a good picture.Even when I get a good picture the channel numbers in the upper right hand corner still continue to evolve. When I do get a channel I don't dare turn it off or I'll have to start the process al over again!

I also can not retrieve the menu, either by the front panel or the universal remote I purchased - made by Sony-. I don't have the original remote.

By the way, the blinking lights have changed from five and beyond to ten with the unplugging of the tv if that matters

Is this a commom problem?

If I can just get the tv to stick to chanel 3 which is not a local channel, I could run everything through the vcr and be happy with my free tv.

Can any body help?

I'll wait by the mail box in anticipation.

Thanks, Grasshoppa

It sounds like you may have

It sounds like you may have intermittent connections or the tuner is intermittent.  What happens if you use the video input jacks on the front or the back of the TV set with the video recorder or DVD player?  I have seen a bad capacitor cause these types of problems as well as a bad tuner.  If  the tuner is bad, I highly doubt if the set is worth repair unless your willing to drop a good 150 or so into this TV set.  To use any special functions such as the menu, color , picture alignment or the channel display, you will need to get an original replacement remote I'm afraid. Those can be a bit costly. You can get one HERE for a reasonable price.  Good Luck with this TV set, and let us know how you made out with the set, or repair.

Well it seems I did something

Well it seems I did something or a combination of fidddling around with my remotes. Anyway the tv still has it's problems but I now can use my vcr to watch all local channels, vcr, and dvds, wahoo!

I haven't yet turned the tv off to see if I can repeat the desired result, and the numbers still scan up in the corner but who  cares! No more 19 in. 20 year old t.v.s for me and it was free.

Oh, and thanks for posting Larry,by the way what was that link for the original remotes? The quick link didn't work.

Thanks again!
