mp3/mp4 problems

can someone help, i bought an mp3/mp4 but the sound doesnt work, i can put music on the player but then when i turn it on i cant hear a thing, it doesnt have a screen so i cant tell whether anything is going on on it. if someone could help with this problem i would be very greatful.
