The standby light is on but I cannot get any action from my TV. The cable people have replaced the set top box which stopped working completely and the insurance co want to replace the TV(without even inspecting it) with a flat screen model. As I prefer my curved screen can the TV be fixed and if so is it financially viable?

Highly unlikely Mitzy but not impossible. As when a TV set gets hit by a lighning spike, all sorts of havoc happens inside of your TV set. In rare cases, the set only blows a fuse. The only way to really tell, would be to take the set into the repair shop and see what they have to say. But I know a lot of shops who when told the set was hit by lightning, will not even bother to look at it and still charge you an estimate fee. So my best advice, take it in to the repair shop and do not say how the set went dead. Good Luck, and let us know how you make out with this TV set.
Hrumph I really like my TV. Insurance co says I can find one I like and let them know the cost. I was hoping it would be a simple fix. Thanks for the advice.
