my tv went on the blink recently.
1 it would not switch on either by remote or by on/off pushbutton
2 it also makes this electronic 'chirp' noise
any ideas or has any body encountered this as well

Sounds like a power supply issue because of a short in the TV set. I have seen the horizontal output transistor, the flyback transformer, as well as the capacitors in the power supplies cause this chirpping noise. You will need to call out a service person to estimate your problem. Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this TV set.
