Need advice on Sony TV

I need someone's advice on my Sony TV.  It is a model # KP-65XBR10W, manufactured in 2000.  The TV was turned on while I was in another room, I heard a wierd noise from the speakers and came into the room to find my TV turned off and would not turn back on.  I unplugged it and waited about 10-15 minutes and plugged it back in.  It makes the sound to turn on and then back off right away.  The Standby light flashes 6 times.  I checked the fuses w/ a DVOM, however I have only seen 2 fuses and am not sure if there are any other fuses somewhere.  A TV repair guy came today, he shined his flashlight around a bit and left, the only thing he said was he suspects the problem is in one of the circuit boards.  LOL!!  I have some free time at the moment and I also have a lot of patience.  I just need someone to point me in the right direction as to testing some of the circuits or where I might obtain a repair manual, or if someone knows what the problem might be since I do not think that I am the first person to have this problem.

Thanx

I have a service manual for

I have a service manual for the KP-53XBR200 TV set, and this has the same chassis (RA-4) that the KP-65XBR10W has.  I would be happy to share it with you if you like.  You will need to go to pando.com and download the free program to read this file I am going to share with you.  That is the only way I can send such a large file, as my e-mail provider does not hand larger files.  Also the six blinks means that the H-stop is active.  That is the horizontal stop circuit.  This could be due to bad capacitors in the sweep supply, a bad High Voltage block, a bad regulator.  Lots of things can cause this.  Good Luck and let us know how this turns out for you and if you want the service manual.

     Thanx for the offer

Thanx for the offer Larry, but right before I got the email that said I had a reply I was visiting servicemanuals.net, and I had just completed the transaction to purchase a service manual, and I mean just completed it, like as soon as I hit the submit button for payment to them, I got an email from here saying someone replied to my post.  I really do appreciate the offer though.

Back to the TV, I did a visual inspection and found something missing, it is labeled R8194 on the circuit board, and there are two small paper clip sized "wires" and nothing in between them.  It looks like there should be one of those super small, sometimes round, or sometimes round but smaller in the middle, multi-colored whatchamacallits.  There is a box with what looks like a pig-tail inside of it.  I suppose I should look that symbol up to find out what it means, and try to find out what it does, I suspect that the "R" in R8194 might stand for resistor, but I do not know for sure and don't want to jump to conclusions. The TV repair guy called back and said he thinks it is the G Board, which I looked and that is the Power Supply Board, The component I found missing is on the D Board closer to the back of the TV versus the front, and more towards the left side of the D Board, as viewed from behind.  He says they don't make the G Board anymore and he will have to troubleshoot at my house since the TV is so big.  Price he told me was $375 - $425.  If anyone knows what the component is that I found missing and where to buy a new one that would be awesome, at least then I would have something to try before paying to have it fixed.

Larry, how are you? Your site

Larry, how are you? Your site was of great help on a MITS dlp, so I will pass on a Sony quandry. RA4 chassis -- replaced flyback and shorted HOT transistor. Will make high voltage, 30 kv at flyback HV wire end, as running while connected to picture tubes.

When showing video, as from an off-air channel, within say 15 seconds, it will drop high voltage, blinking 7 times. When showing, it has good video. If screen is reduced, it will give 5 blinks, but 7 is most common if showing picture before quiting.

Wish I had noted location numbers, but perhaps you have seen this before. I don't have it in front of me, but here is what I scoped, going by item placement, board viewed from front end, not cable jack end. a small transistor, driving horizontal pulses to h drive transformer, just behind hv reg connector that comes from splitter - when started, has horizontal pulses at input and output. When quits, no h pulses of course. Following base line of this transistor up, I find 2 small surface mount resistors. At this junction, hor pulses remain after hor pulses quit at the small transistor. I have changed both it and the hor drive transistor, just to see. I can provide better location numbers later, just wanted to run it across you.

I questioned the blue tube, and swapped with a known good one. Same results. All do have good bright video when working.

Thanks, Danny

It is common to find components missing from a board, it is not because they forgot to put the component in, but it is not needed for this configuration. This needs real troubleshooting, if you have a volt meter, check the base of Q8021 and the base of Q8019 check for .4 to .7 volts. if you see this let me know which one is triggered.

CAN I PLEASE GET A COPY OF THE SEVICE MANUAL? I HAVE A KP-53XBR200 AND THE SOUND RECENTLY HAS VERY LOW OUTPUT.  OR IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTION, I AM ALL EARS.

THANKS,

TONY

Larry Dillon said: Tony, STOP

Larry Dillon said: Tony, STOP shouting at me man!

I was not shouting.  I am at work and the system we use has to be typed in caps.  I always make the mistake and leave the caps on when working on other things.  Sorry for that.

That is still shouting and is

That is still shouting and is against all Internet etiquette. No excuse, you are still at work. Pay attention in the future please. I am sorry, but that is a pet peve for me as well as a lot of others online helpers.
