mp4 player blues!

Hi. Bought mp4 player from Japan at Christmas.Not only can I not get it to play video it has suddenly decided to shut itslf off when I try to play mp3 tracks! Disc and instructions are obv very badly translated as they make no sense. Any idea how I can reset it or has any one else had this prob
