mp3 problem

My mp3 player will not turn on, and when I connect it to my computer, it doesn't even recognize that it is connected. Also, the mp3 doesn't go on and display that it is connected to the computer. I haven't dropped it, it hasn't been near anything (ie magnets) that could mess it up, and I have always safely removed it from my system. It'd be cool if anyone could possibly lend me a hand... thanx
