Mitsubishi WS-55809 convergence problem

We moved the TV from one location to another.  Since then we have had problems keeping the red and the blue lines, lined up.  We hired a man to come up and hook everything up for HD and had it working good.  But a couple of days later same problem started in.  Also it looks like a fish bowl affect on the screen.  We can line up horizontal but can't adjust vertical.  Thanks for any help.

If you know how to solder,

If you know how to solder, simply find the convergence IC's, and that is not a hard thing to do, and resolder the two IC connections.  If you let it go, the set will get worse and then turn into a repair, and if you do not know how to solder or work on printed circuit boards, this will then cost you several hundred bucks.  The convergence IC's are about 2" X 4 " and are black and have letters on them that start with STK. They are also standing upwards against a large metal heatsink.   If you do not have the experience or the skills or tools to do this, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. good Luck and let us know how this turns out for you.

Just out of curiosity, Larry,

Just out of curiosity, Larry, will the convergence IC's show signs of wear and tear? I have the exact same problem as Debcanaday and have removed the board with the Convergence IC's attached. The connections to the board don't really look burned out or anything, but every forum I've seen says that resoldering them should work. So, I just want to know if the damage is easily visible before I try to fix it. Thanks.

No they look normal you can tell if they are working by touching them after the tv has been on for a while if they are hot to the touch then they are working if they are cold then they are not working.

Thanks for the reply. I'm

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to go ahead and resolder the connections.

I soldered the connections

I soldered the connections and put the TV back together, but the problem seems not to have been fixed. Before I retry soldering, I have a question. Must I have the remote controller to properly use convergence? I lost the original controller some time back and want to know if I can buy a universal remote or if I need an original. Or does having a controller not make a difference at all?

Depends what make/model and

Depends what make/model and chassis do you have?when you figure that out go to the Service Manuals section and download the Service Manual and instructions for getting into the service menu will be in there, thats a good thing to know before you go through all the trouble of replacing the IC's

You may have a auto convergence option in the regular menu that should do a rough convergence for you.

Also{you are warned}do not mess with anything in the service menu unless you are shure of what you are doing.Thats a shure fire way to screw your tv up IRREPARABLY

It turns out that I had

It turns out that I had incorrectly soldered the first time. After tearing the TV apart again and resoldering it, the convergence issue was fixed, which was a big relief.
But the TV is still not in perfect working order; the inputs don't work correctly. Essentially, the picture is fine, now, but I cannot get any audio or video to come through the TV. I've tried plugging in game systems, DVDs, Blu-Ray, you name it. I figure that somewhere between the input and the screen something is messed up that makes the TV not know that anything is plugged in. Thanks for any and all help.
