This bad boy has been great for many years. Just recently the creen goes very dark. Sometimes it appears clear then it goes very dark again. My kid has had it down at Texas A&M and he's too poor to spend too much onit. Any suggestions other than turn it into a bond fire donation.
It sounds like a bad connection on the green picture tube driver board or on the CRT socket itself. You can unplug the set, take off the speaker grill and then take out a few screws on the front panel behind the speaker grill, and take off the panel. Inside you will see all three picture tube necks. The middle one will be the green one. With great care, slide the board off of the picture tube. Look at the board and see if there are any bad connectiuons that you can see like around the CRT cocket, ect. Good Luck and let us know if you solved your problem.
