I have a portable TV that shuts off with no picture or sound. When I try to turn it back on again, it emits a high-pitched squeal. I have to repeatedly turn it on and off for 10 minutes to get it to start working again, at which point it turns off again anyway. WHY?
Why? Thats a good question. At this point, without a model number or make of the TV set, this is only a guess. When a TV set makes a high pitched noise after you push the power switch, that is generally the power supply or the horizontal drive circuit, under a large load. In other words there is a major short in the TV set causing the poiwer supply to load down. Now depending on the make of the set, this could be a shorted horizontal output transistor, a shorted flyback transformer, or an open capacitor in one of the power supply feeds. If you have no TV repair experiennce, play it safe and call in a tech to have a look at the tV set. Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this Tv set.
