1998 Sony Trinitron TV Model KV37XBR48M

I had an intermittent problem with my subject tv when it would turn black then red and the a horizontal red line would appear. I could correct this by powering off and then on again. I now have a hard fault with the same condition where it goes thru the same sequence as above and then goes into stand-by mode but does not fix by powering down and up. any suggestions would be appreciated.
