I purchased a Zenith 50" plasma TV (Z50PX2D) on 1/21/06. The set is only 14 months old and needless to say, i'm not happy. About 1 1/2weeks ago while viewing, we heard a loud pop (like a firecaracker) and then saw a bright flash. We unplugged and turned it off for a few hours and then turned it back on. The sound was ok but there is almost no picture whatsoever. The color is gone and the screen is almost all black with lines in the center. There is a partial dull picture on the outer perimeter. I spent over $3,000 for this set. It might or might not be covered under warranty. I'm getting conflicting statements from Zenith customer service. One rep says 2 years and the other 1 year. Can someone please give me a diagnosis and advice. Thank you!
As far as I know, Zenith/LG Plasma's have only a one year warranty on them. That said, it sounds like one of several possibilities.
One of the buffer flatpack IC's popped and is now loading the Y sustain board down.
The Y sustain board had something let go.
Something in the power supply blew.
