I've had this set for approx 3 years now with no issues other than an occassional screen flicker which I've read was a comming issue with early model HDTV projection screens.
Lately, I've had some crazy issues with the set. Last week in the middle of a movie I had red and blue lines go all over the set, after searching the net I found were you could adjust the voltage lower on the red and blue to get rid of the lines. that solved the line issue. Now, when you turn the TV on and off there is a huge large red "splotch" in the center of the screen. the TV will not display a picture after turning on until the red warm up light on the front of the box blinks a few times. used to, the light would blink but I would immediately get picture.
the other weird thing is since this problem has come up, The TV will turn on and off and function with other remotes in the house that previously were not programmed. The other remotes are a universal satellite remote and another sony remote from another TV in the house. I do have a Terk Leapfrog RF remote sender mounted under the TV to share some A/V equipment with another room. I'm curious if the leapfrog has caused all of these issues. the leapfrog is sitting under where the red lamp is on the set on the TV stand. I've had the leapfrog for approx 3-4 months with no issues
Could the RF frequency by the leapfrog have shorted out the TV somehow?
No I highly doubt it. It sounds like the typical bad CRT issue that so many of these Sony models have. These picture tubes have been an upcomming issue now for a spell. These tubes cost about 275 bucks a pop. These are not reallty that hard to install, but a trained tech should do it because of the high voltage issuse as well as the alighnment that will be needed after the tubes are replaced. Good Luck and let us know of the outcome with this TV set.
I have the Sony KP-46WT500 as well but am having a different problem. Everything works, but the picture is zoomed in too far. For example, or ESPN or CNN, the streaming ticker at the bottom of the screen that shows scores, I can only see half of it. I have gone to menu and changed the "wide" settings to normal, standard, wide zoom, etc and they all are zoomed in about 2 inches too far on all sides of the screen. Anyone know why this is?
