Toshiba TV remote control

I have a Toshiba Cinema Series TV-we recently had it repaired and has been working fine-all of a sudden, the remote control stopped working all the time.  We tried new batteries, and then a new universal remote programmed it and it worked once or twice and now works only when the set is turned on for the first time of the day-sometimes.
