I have had this tv for several years. Yesterday i left and it was working fine, today i can't power it on. there is no sound, no response at all from the power button. i was thinking maybe the power supply died. i tried a universal remote to see if it was just the power button on the set that was dead and no luck. Any Suggestions?
With no responce, my first guess would be the standby power supply. If there was a power surge while you were away, it is possible that the standby transformer primary side has gone open. I have seen this many times. Please post the model number and we can get a part number and possibly more details on what to check.

I unfortunately can not get to behind the TV easily based on when i bought it and a little internet research i would guess it is a KV-32FS10. its a 32 inch sony wega from around 2000, no PIP. Sorry this is all the info i can get without totally tearing my entertainment system apart and the TV is really heavy. I am gonna need a buddy to get this to the shop if and when it comes to that
check the fuse first and the thermister just next to the fuse.but you have to open the set.carefull high volts inside,
There are many reasons for this set to be dead. Perhaps the most common is that the Horizontal Output Transistor is shorted. This is a large transistor attached to a heatsink located close to the flyback. Check this first. As always, be careful as there is high voltage in this area even when the TV is unplugged.

Well I am planning on taking it somewhere to get fixed. Can you give me what you think would be the average price range for a repair of this sort? I was figuring in the 200-250 range. I really only have one option around here, I kinda live in the country.
The parts for this shouldn't be more than about $30-$50 depending upon whether or not there are other parts beyond the shorted HOT. LAbor will be anywhere from $150-$200.
