LCD number two just died after a few months! Expert Please!

I am trying to find out if this is just a coincidence or a common problem with LCD Televisions.

I purchase two years ago a Sharp 37" LCD TV. After a few months it died, would not turn on at all.

I then purchased a Philips 37" LCD TV and it died after several months. It won't turn on at all and is being serviced as we speak.

The LCD is located in a Florida condo. I have always had them connected to a Power Surge Strip. I use the power strip to turn the LCD on and off.

The LCD is only used at night.

I just find it very strange that both LCDs died after months of little use and protected with a power strip.

Question: Again, is this a common problem with LCDs or is this just a coincidence?

Do not turn the set on and

Do not turn the set on and off with the power strip.  it may be causing a power surge.  It is not common for sets to blow up after 2 months, might be just a coincidence or might be because of the powering on and off with a power strip.  If you leave Florida, yes turn off the strip to protect the TV set from those nasty Florida storms.  but when your home leave the strip on and then the stanby voltage is always on and draws very little power.  When you plug in the set like when your turning onm and off the strip, it is starting up the standby power supply and causes a slight surge of power each and every time you do this.  Good luck and let us know how the sets get repaired or what it took to repair them.

Thank you very much Larry.

Thank you very much Larry. Your help is most appreciated. The Philips repair dealer said that the set is still under warranty and would be fixed in a couple of weeks since a part has to be ordered.

Thanks again, we will follow your directions stated above.

Larry,

Larry,

I should have explained the following better. Let me know if you still think the power strip is the problem.

My procedure for turning the LCD on and off while connected to the powerstrip each day is as follows:

I turn on the powerstrip, wait a minute, then turn the LCD on.

When I am finished using the LCD, I turn the LCD off, wait a minute then turn the powerstrip off.

Is this the safest way or do you think either the powerstrip is bad or even though I use this method a surge is still the problem?
