I need help! No audio on DVD

So I have a Daewoo TV that's less than 3 years old, and has successfully connected with DVD players, VCR's and stereos in the past.

I recently obbtained a new DVD player- Insignia, very basic.  It came with a cable (~ 2 or 3 ft) that has 3 prongs on each end, red, yellow, and white. I was assured by the guy at the store that this would be all I needed.

I plugged these in to the appropriate places on the back of the DVD player, and tried them in the AV1, AV2, AV3, and AV4 plugs on my TV, and flipped through channels 2-4 each time, but my problem remains the same:

When I play the DVD, I get the picture, but not the audio. However, even if the TV is at a fairly low volume, there's a loud buzzing sound.

These are off the shelf DVD's, not copies of any kind, so that's not where the issue is.

My friend said he thought this was a common problem he had once had, but coluldn't remember how he fixed it, so I am turning to the experts.

Thanks!

The hum means that there is

The hum means that there is an ungrounded connection to the audio input. I would suspect that you have a bad unit. Return it for an exchange. This is a problem with the DVD player not the TV. As a double check, connect the cables to teh TV and set the volume at about 25%. Touch the center pin of either the red or white cables. You should hear a hum. This is the natural 60 cycle hum in your body. This will indicate that the TV side is at least working somewhat. Most likely there is a problem with the D/A converter in the DVD for the audio section. Dan
