OLD RCA TV, too much white

I have an old RCA (M#: F20575EM) TV that when lots of white is on a TV show, the TV will wash out and you can't see it.  If I bring the contract control down (< 25%) it's better, but the picture is too dark.  I've also adjusted the brightness but it just brings back my white washout problem.

Also setting the TV this way, makes it difficult to read text on the screen (guide info) as the letters aren't crisp and they are dark.

I have lots of tuning controls on the back of the TV:

G, R/B, B, G, R, horiz, Vert, Focus, Screen

Could adjusting one of these help?

It is a good possiblity that

It is a good possiblity that you could need an adjustment but with a set this age, it could be a bad picture tube as well.  These alighnment on this set is very tricky and should only be preformed by someone who knows what happens when a control is turned.  if you have no experience doing white balace on this type of TV set you could make thge set conciderably worse.  First try this.  But I take no responsibility if you mess up the set so you do this at your own risk. Turn on th TV set and let it warm up at least 10 to 15 minutes.  Turn off the color and see what the Black and white looks like.  If it is good great, if it is not we will address this later.  Turn up Down the contrast and the brightness all the way down.  Now with a non metal screwdriver turn up the SCREEN control till you see the slightest picture. Very faint.  If when you turn down the brightness and contrast and the picture is still there, turn down the screen control till you just barly see a picture.  Now turn up the brightness half way and the contrast till you get a good picture.  If you cannot achive a good picture and the set is bleeding from the edges, the picture tube is eather going soft or there is a bad capacitor or resistor in the RGB drive circuit.  If you do get a good bight and clean picture, rock the focus control back and forth till you get the best possible focus.  If the picture does not have a good grey scale ot black and white picture yoiu use the RGB drives to try and achive this NOT the RGB gain controls.  This alighnment can throw off a set big time so maybe you should not attempt these.  Good Luck and let us know how you make out with this old RCA TV set.
