Panasonic dmr-ez45 - no sound!

Hi!

I'm new to all this technical stuff-but thought I would be able to connect up my dvd recorder with no problems!

The problem I have is that when watching TV channels through the DVD recorder there is only sound when one of the on screen menus is being displayed.  As soon as the on screen menu is removed it goes back to having no sound.

When watching home recorded stuff or playing back pre-recorded media the sound is fine.

I have searched through the instruction manual, but cant come up with any thing obvious.  It makes no difference if the HDMI lead is or isn't plugged in to the back of my TV.

Has anybody got any suggestions?

Welcome to techlore Dylan97.

Welcome to techlore Dylan97.  Lets first get a little background on your equipment. I see you have a Panasonic DVD recorder, but what type of sound system do you have or are you simply trying to use the TV as the sound source, and also what type of TV set are you using?  You stated it does not matter when you use the HDMI cable , what are you using as an input when your not using the HDMI cable?  The screen menu issue, is this a menu from the DVD recorder or from the TV set?  I looked for this model number on Pansonics web site and it was not listed.  Is this unit in the united States or where?
