toshiba projection tv

My toshiba projection tv turns on, but no picture or sound.

The power indicator light starts blinking after a few seconds and won't turn

off. It has to be unplugged. Any ideas?

There is a malfuntion in the

There is a malfuntion in the main regulator or one the power supply supplies inside this TV set.  These circuits are all solid state and will need to be understood and you will need to get a service manual, find the safety shutdown circuits, troubleshoot them to isolate your defective componets or circuit, and get vthe proper parts for this unit.  For your problem, I doubt highly if this is a quick fix.  If you have no TV or solid state repair experience, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you with this repair.  Good Luck and let us know how or if you had this set repair and of the problem found.

Larry,

I'm having the EXACT same problem as art417 on my Toshiba rear projection 50H71

I don't have this type of repair experience. I'm gonna have to call a tech to come out.  Is there anyway to estimate how much it will cost for this fix? I can get a SEARS tech out here for a min. of $105.00 service charge. Any rough estimate would be great.  Thanks

ART417 were you able to fix Todhiba or did you find out how much

repair will cost - have exact same problem!!

thanks

An estimate on a set with this problem will be a tough one to give without looking at the set. I mean it could be anything from a regulator IC all the way up to a bad flyback transformer.

Thanks Larry,

I'll go ahead and call out a tech to look at it. If its under $500 I think I'll go ahead and have them fix it. I realy don't want to carry it out of my basement!

I can say whitout a doubt that I'm upset with Toshiba. They won't give me the time of day about type of problem, much less a TV that cost me $2400 new and didn't even last 4 years... I'm tempted to load this thing with liquid poop, put it on Toshiba's front door step ring the bell and run...

I might just save my money, start over, and spend $1500 for a NEW Panasonic  50" plasma.

I'll repost how it all worked out.

 Larry,

 Larry,

I finally found someone that could work on our t.v. . There were no

authorized Toshiba dealers close and others we've used didn't work on

projection t.v.'s Unfortunately he came when I wasn't home and my

girlfriend does'nt remember the part name except there's convergence

in it. Either a circuit or filter, maybe?  The part # is stk392-110 and it

cost $210. Thanks for your help. Hope this helps everyone.

Thats the convergence IC.

Hi have a toshiba 50H81 and I

Hi have a toshiba 50H81 and I have the same problem described by art417. I have the service manual but no schematics. If somebody has them, could you send them to me. Please.

I did some throubleshooting and found that F850 (+16Vdc 5A fuse was blown). I replaced it and put a meter and I was getting 9A. There is no short on the +16V. I found that if I unplug the convergence cable going to each tube, the current goes back to 200mA. If I plug any of the three, I get 9A. I don't think it is a tube because they would not blow at the same time.

Looking at the block diagram I can see that the 16V is converted into +/-12V that power the two convergence IC STK392-110. I have some more troubleshooting to do. My next step will be to check if my +/-12V are good then look at the output of the convergence ICs.

But if my convergence IC (Horizontal or Vertical) is dead, should I get a white line or a dot on the screen? I have nothing, black. Is convergence IC are the problem?

I hope it can help you,

If you find your problem please post it.

You may have bad convergence

You may have bad convergence IC's my friend but there is a very common problem with this toshiba TV set.  Look at the larger capacitors C809 and C810 on the negitive leads.  They have bad solder connection and can blow the fuse just like you found.   If this is not the problems, disconnect the ICs and see if this stops the voltage from being loaded down.  good Luck and let us know how you made out with this repair.
