I have an emerson vcr I can not figure out how to record a tv program. I have direct tv and I have an rca hdtv. Ihave to go thru a spliter to use the vcr , I have programed my remote to turn the vcr on and play a video tape, but cannot figure out how to record a tv program. When I push record it works , but when I rewind it is only a blank tape. The direct tv manuel does not tell me much about recording. Even my vcr manual does not help with this situation. Please can some one help?????
Let me ask you a question. Why do you have a splitter to use the VCR and the DTV? All you simply need to do is from the DTV receiver box take the RF output that goes to the TV set and install that cable to the VCR input or antenna in. Now take a separate cable and hook one end to the VCR output, and the other end to the TV set. Now you will need to put the VCR on the channel that you would if the DTV was only connected to your TV set. Now if you press record it will record, but you cannot record one channel while watching another without two DTV receivers. if you want to use the DTV reciver by itself turn off the VCR. Good Luck and let us know how you made out with this hookup.
Thank you Larry for responding to my vcr problem. My son-in-law hooked my vcr and dvd player up to the spliter. He stays so busy and I hate to ask him to do things, so I guess I will have to do it myself. To begin with there is not a cable running from the RF out put on the receiver box to the TV. Everything is hooked to the splitter and then running to the TV. Do I unplug the cables that are hooked to the splitter? What kind of cable do I use to run from the receiver box to the tv? Things might not be explained very well , but I am a senior citizen female and my husband can't get down on the floor to do all the hooking up, so mamaw has to do it. The vcr and dvd player are both hooked to the splitter. You make it seem so simple and I am afraid if I try it I might mess something up , but I have to try.
Thanks,
Mamaw it is simple. First you disconnect the spitter and the wires going to it. Next lets start with the DTV receiver. Leave the satillite wire attached to the receiver where it comes in from the outside dish. Look for the output going to the TV set on the Satillite box. Take a wire from there and connect the other end to the vcr where it says in from antenna or antenna input. Next the connector on the VCR that says output to TV set, take another wire and connect one end there and the other end going to the TV set. It is just connecting the VCR in between the satillite box and the TV set. Now with the VCR off turn on the satillite receiver and the TV set.. Tune the TV set to the normal channel that you would without the VCR. If all is working, now turn on the VCR and if the picture goes away, tune the VCR tuner to the channel that was on the TV set. Oh I forgot to ask you, if the satillitr box and the VCR used the same channel on the TV set. if it doies not, you will need to put the TV set on the channel that the VCR is set to but do not forget to tune the VCR channel on the channel that you would use on the TV set. I hope I did not confuse you too much. Please let us know if you figured this out and if you need more assistance. good luck.
