DV-S20 Screen stays black

After we set the time and date on the camcorder and we press ok. The screen goes black and wont display anything else. We have tried everything that the owners manual has suggested. Its a Gateway DV-S20 Digital MPEG4 Camcorder 2.1 Mega Pixels. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US WE ARE LOST IN ANOTHER WORLD!!!
