JVC mini system - CD reads 'No Disc'

This is my second post.

I have a JVC MX J50 - 3 CD/cassette/AM-FM mini system. It was working fine, and I moved it to another room, and now the CD reads 'No Disc' no matter which of the three trays are loaded. I am pretty handy with stuff and am going to look inside, but I thought I might get some pointers and ideas first.

Thanks for any and all replies.

PS - the radio and cassette work just fine.

This is a common problem that can be caused by a number of things.  First carefully open up the unit and look at the lens.  Clean this with alcohol and a cotton swab.  If that dosn't work, the unit could be out of time (a tooth slipped during the move) or the optics can be going bad and the physical jarring during the move set it over the edge.  Please be extremely careful with this because further damage could occur if the unit gets out of sequence.  Good luck and keep us posted.  Dan

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the reply.

Any idea what I might look for that would tell me a tooth had slipped. {{I really don't think that will be it, as it was not jarred at all really that I recall ..but I will look to be sure.}}

Unfortunately, this is not a simple "check this" type of situation.  JVC units aer not the easiest to repair.  Timing of the gearing requires a stepwise procedure to "rebuild" the loading mechanism.  Without a service manual that has the description of the reassembly process, there is no way to re-time these.  Try cleaning first.  Drop me an Email with your location and I'll see about finding a repari center close by that won't charge rediculous money for the repair.
