I had the convergence repiared on this TV in May 06. At the time the red was out of whack. The repair guy replaced parts on the board and all was well. Now I am noticing that I am getting a blue halo aroung white objects and in some dark scenes. I tried to run perfect focus but it gets stuck when it gets to blue. When I go into manual convergence mode, it appears that the crosshairs are lined up for both the red and blue. I have not tried to manually adjust either. My question is: do you think my blue convergence is starting to go bad now? Should I have the board repaired again? Would it be better to buy a new board so all the parts are new? Do you know the part number? Or is my convergence board OK and maybe I just need to have the set adjusted? Thanks for your help.
If your problem is again the convergence circuit, the tech should have replaced Both IC's at the same time. The entire convergence board is less the 100 bucks. Any tech that knows about these convergence circuits knows this. I would ask them why they did not replace both IC's at the same time and would not use that shop again. Check out this story, go to the Samsung parts link, enter your model number and see all the parts available for your TV set. Go HERE to check this out. Good Luck, and let us know how this repair turns out.
Thanks. I'm going to order a new board from SamsungParts. That way all the parts will be new. I'm pretty handy. Can I install it myself or should I hire a tech to do it? Is it just a matter of disconnecting the old one and connecting the new one? Do any other adjustments need to be done after the new one is installed? Thanks
Yes a good possibility that there will be some convergence adjustment after the new board is replaced. You will need a service manual for this set to do the alighnments. If you never adjusted a service menu or do not understand how to do it, I would have to recommend that you get a pro to do the adjustments of the TV set. You should be able to replace the board, as it plugs in. Let us know how you made out with this TV set.
Larry, Thanks for your responses. One more question. I was looking at the parts on Samsungparts.com and there is an assy sub pcb-cg module and an assy sub pcb-cg amp. Should I replace both?
find out what board has the convergence IC's on them. If you do not have a manual, I highly advise that you get one as this set will need some alighnment after you replace the board or boards. Sometimes if the convergence board is replaced you have to replace the other board as well because the IC's took out the power supply as well.
Larry, I had a tech come out and after looking at my picture he tried to move the convergence manually, he said it appeared to be working OK. He then took the front off the set and showed me how the coolant in the blue tube was foggy compared to the clearness of the red and green. He is going to come back in a couple of days to change the coolant, and then he said he will see if the perfect focus will work. He thinks it will, that it is getting stuck on the blue because it can't focus. I didn't think to ask him if he is going to change the cooland on all 3 or just the blue. Should I have him change all 3, or is OK to only change the blue now? Thanks for all your help.
All three tubes should be changed all at once. thats a weird symptom to the problem.
