my tv: sony kdf55wf655 purchased 05/04/05
the problem: can no longer get local hdtv from off the air antenna(did b4!)
what i've tried ( summarized): connected outdoor, roof mounted antenna directly to uhf >scanned for digital channels>none detected ( analog comes in great) for example get channel 26 perfect but 26.1 'no signal'. come from same broadcast antenna.*sigh*
tried tuning directly ie; punching 26.1 in via the remote > NO SIGNAL
went to antennaweb.org > verified channels i should recieve and the direction my antenna is pointing> scan for digitals channels> none detected
called sony..... what a joke..... they are customer service reps - not techs
they referred me to sony authorized repair center > only one in my area (apparently) 65 miles away. called them> $159.00 just to look at the tv - non refundable but after describing the problem to the tech (thru the girl who answered the phone) he says its probably the Q box ($639.00 thru sony or partstore.com)
HERES MY DILEMNA..... i know where i can get a Q box brand new, never been used for $200.00 but i need to diagnose that this is indeed the problem.................
anyone know any checks or trouble shooting i could do at home to verify the Q box is the likely cuprit? TIME'S TICKIN as im afraid someone will buy that Q box soon if i dont.
P.S. i ran onscreen diagnostic using the directions from the service manual and it reported all zeros (no problems detected)
any suggestions greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!
The only history I found on this set that was similar to your description had the cable connected to the incorrect input. I am assuming that the hookup now is the same as it was when the set worked properly. If this is the case, the most likely culprit would be the Q-box. As near as I can tell, the internal diagnostics will not detect a faulty Q-box.
