Please Help! I just bought this tv off eBay. When I got the tv home and hooked it up, I noticed the picture was slightly bowed. I can only notice it when the tv is in widescreen mode or when there are words on the tv, like ending credits. I also can notice it when i'm in my satalite guide menu. I went into the tv's menu and the only thing I could adjust was the tilt, which did help some because the picture seemed to lean more to the right. Now it its bowed in a rainbow shape with the difference being about a half an inch higher in the center vs. the sides. Other that that, the pictre looks great and seems to operate perfectly. Is this an easy fix? What could be wrong? The seller swears that the tv was in perfect condition when I picked it up... Someone told me that the magnets in the tube may be out of wack and need to be adjusted? Is this expensive? HELP!
Can anyone help? Please? I have disputed the charge with Paypal now since the seller does not want to refund my money. He is claiming that I did something to the tv which I did not. Can this problem occur just by transporting it? I did nothing but pick it up off the floor where it was placed, right by his front door, put it in my minivan, drove it carefully for about a 20 minute car ride, and brought it into my home and put it in my entertainment center. I did not have to go up or down any stairs and I did not turn it on its side or upside down. SOMEONE HELP!!!
Yes danny75, the TV set could have been jarred a little and knocked the beam alighnment magnets out of wack. This repair should not cost too much to repair, depending on how long it takes to realighn the magnets. sometimes the tech canm get lucky and see the mark where the magnets where previously at and simply move them back into postion and lock them back into place with the ring lock that is at the end of the ring magnet assembly. This is not a repair job for the novice as you will need whats call a color bar/ crosshatch generator, a deguassing coils, and the knowledge of what magnet control what beam or color. I have never bought any electronics off e-bay that I wanted to use, only for spare parts. A repair like this if I had to quess will be between 40 to 100 bucks to repair, but you will have to take the set to them. good luck, and let us know how you made out with this TV set.
Larry, Thanks. I did call a couple of tv repair places. One guy said it could be a pin cousion problem or what you are describing above. He recomended that I just leave as-is since it could be possible to make the tv worse not better. Another guy said something similar to what your saying but also said that it is not a good idea to mess with it as it would not be cost effective. I wouldnt mind paying 40 to 100 bucks to repair. I paid only 325 bucks for the tv so I still think it would be a good deal. Can you reccomend anyone in the Chicagoland area that could help? The repair shops around me I guess are not experenced enough...
Find an authorized Sony repair place and speak to them. How old is this set? There should be a manufacturer date on the back of the set on the model number tag.
Yep, as you were told, could be a pincussion problem. Sounds like you were taken a bit from the seller. I would for sure rate him AS A RISK TO BUY FROM! We live and learn from our experiences from life and if the seller sold the TV set like this, they will have to answer in the the end to this. I think they did as you said they refused to give you back your money. Sounds like a scammer to me!
