There are a few things you should check to make sure you're set to go to receive HDTV programs:
1.
Make sure that the HD cable box is connected via a HD connection to the
TV. Such options include component video, DVI, or HDMI... depending on
the options your TV provides and the type of cable box you were
provided.
2. Check your cable box main setup and verify that the
box is set to output HD channels in HD quality. To do this, power off
your Motorola box. With the cable box remote control, press "menu".
You'll see some options to adjust the output resolution of HD sources.

3.
Make sure you're tuned to a HD channel and that they're playing a
high-def program. Not all programming on the HD channels is in HD
quality all the time.
I checked it. Everything looks fine. It is connected via the HDMI cable and not the Y, Pb, Pr cables. Is this an issue? Or is it possibly the fact that is an older set (Sony KV32HS500).? In comparison to my friends Plasma, its night and day. I always thought that HD was HD. Changing from a regular channel with a HD channel, its basically the same. For sure it is an HD program because it is on the HD Movies station HDNet.
It's very possible that the HDMI connection is your problem. The TV you
said you have doesn't have an HDMI input, only DVI. Though the TV says
it's HDCP capable, something may be getting lost in the HDMI to DVI
adapter. Try connecting the cable box to the TV via component video and
see if that gets you HD.

Just because something is being broadcast in HD doesn't mean it was originally produced in HD.
