high pitch sound problem
I have a big Sony projection TV I got third hand.  Its probably 6-10 years old.  It was sitting for about 6 months while the basement was being remodled.  I've only used it to play playstation on and after a couple of weeks of sporatic use, it has started making a high pitch (almost like a feedback sound) when the tv is on.  It is only off and on but it is slowly becoming more on than off.  I can hear the sound coming from the back of the tv and happens if the volume is turned up or down.  Other than the play station, nothing is plugged into it (no speakers, cable hook up or anttena).  I'm looking for ideas on what could be causing the problem and ideally there is a quick and easy fix or if I need to call someone I have some idea of how much it will cost to fix.
Thanks.

That high pitched sound could

That high pitched sound could be a singing coli or transformer.  The cause could be from age, as the windings shrink and start to vibrate arounf themselfs or from the core.  It could also be an indication of an up and comming power supply falure or a sweep supply or deflection falure. It is most of the time caused be a capacitor going bad.  If the problem is a coil or transformer, most of the time the part has to be replaced.  probling around inside for a non- tech is very dangerous, as there is alot of high voltage indie these puppys even when they are unplugged.  my best advice would be to call around and see what the estimate fee is going to be. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out with this set.
