I have a Mitsubishi 62525 DLp TV purchased in sept 2004. I have noticed in the past 2months or so what I thought were smudge marks on the screen. As i cleaned the outer screen as per manu. instructions the smudges did not disappear. I then removed the outer screen and cleaned the inner. Still the same result. It appears that these smudges or shadows are now all over the screen. Does anyone know if this could be the bulb starting to fail or something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ritman
The problem you are seeing is dust "bunnies" settling on a small mirror inside the cabinet of your tv. Removing the screen is pretty painless but I suggest you get the help of another person. I'll try to explain the best I can. It doesnt' matter if the tv is on or off while doing this. I prefer to do it with the set on so I can see the mirror better. But for safety reasons you might want the tv off.
1. Start by removing the screws from the back of the screen. They are directly behing the outline of the screen itself. I believe there are 4 along the top and 3 on either side (left and right). Please note that these screws are pointed.
2. We'll move to the front of the set now. Remove the plastic speaker cover from the front, this will expose a section directly in the middle that is held in with four screws (not pointed). Remove these screws and this exposes some wires and 2 screws that are attached to the bottom of the screen. Remove 4 screws from the front bottom of the screen one on either end of the screen and the 2 near the middle that you recently exposed. Before the screen can be removed the molex plug connecting these wire needs to be disconnected. This can be done easily with a little examination. Its a squeeze and pull design.
3. The screen can now be lifted and pulled out. If you examine the way this is secured to the tv you will see a 2 hooks on the back of the screen one on either side (L/R). You will notice that there are four holes where these hooks will fit in when replacing. Just use the top 2.
4. OK. Here is the problem. The mirror that sits at the bottom of this cabinet is filthy! Use a soft cotton t-shirt or sock and some ammonia free glass cleaner for best results. Spray the cloth not the mirror. Gently Clean this mirror and if necessary the lens of the projector. You do NOT have to clean the big mirror that faces downward. Don't touch this mirror unless you want to spend hours getting it spotless. Trust me when I say leave it alone.
5. Once this is clean, you can work backwards by securing the screen on with the hooks and then putting the pointy screws in the back. Put the 4 screws in the front along the bottom of the screen and remember to connect the wires. This is your front panel and power led. Finish off by putting the small cover back in the center and replacing the 4 screws. Put the speaker grill back on and you are done.
I am going to try this over the weekend- I will report back asap.
OK- ragingigas is a genuis-
I follwed his instructions to the tee, I had the screeen off in 15 minutes, the mirror dusted 1 minute later and the whole thing reassembled in no time whatwoever. Then the test, would the TV start? Would the "smudges" be resovled? I am thrilled to report a resounding YES to both questions. The picture is sparkling, now I remeber why I chose DLP over LCD and plasma. I have had my Mitis-62525 for over 4 years and I am on my second bulb which is now 3 years old and the thing runs like a charm. I have heard horror stories about bulb life and other issues with these sets, I guess I will simply count myslef lucky. Any way, thanks for the great advice the whole exercise took only 30 minutes and I saved $200.00 bucks on what would have been a service call for someone to open up my tv and dust a 5 inch square and a one inch projector lens! You rock !
