Sears 27" Chassis# CTC177BF trouble

I was given this TV because it would collapse the picture sometimes.  I found that some pressure on the RF input would make it OK for a while.  I finally decided to trouble shoot it and found the degauss thermistor was de-soldered.  This is RT4201K with numbers 100-01A A1737 and I found that translated to 207768 RCA Thermistor.  I tried to re-solder the lead to the thermistor but it broke in half as soon as the solder gun touched it.  I found a new part by the 207768 number but it had 100-02A A1759 on it.  I put this part in but now I get no power on.  It draws a little current when you plug it in but nothing else.  Did I get the wrong part or is there further issues that it caused?  I know that this chassis has common problems around this area.

No this set has  a common

No this set has  a common problem around the tuner assy. tuner grounds, and tuner sheilds.  Go HERE to find out what needs to be done about that issue.  This would sooner or later make the set go dead because it would mess up the eeprom.  The kit is called the S-Kit.  Read the article I sent you and see if this helps you. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress with this repair.

I guess I am unsure just where on the board the digram is, I do not match the pattern.  Is this under a shield?

I just did not want to de

I just did not want to de-solder the shield if not needed.  The less I subject things to un-necessary heat the better. Smile  I have a steady temperature fine point pencil iron for IC work but need to use the big gun for the shield.  Thanks for pointing me in the right place.

Also, would a SAM's manual be useful on this set?  I used to get them all the time on older electronics but now there are much fewer parts involved.  (I go back a long ways, I teethed on tube boxes in my days repair shop in the fifties. Surprised)

Yes the Sheild has to be

Yes the Sheild has to be removed.  The Sams fotofacts, if there is one for this set would, or should be fine.  The eeprom for this set is 218397=CTC177BD,CTC177BF.
