NFL PLAYOFFS PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I purchased this set about three years ago for 2200.00.Last sunday in the middle of a playoff game is when the problem started. The picture is sort of like a 3D movie and the top and bottom of the picture is being pulled into the middle. After about 16 hours of reading different posts, came up with the assumption that the 2 stk 392-560 were defective.Ordered and replaced both ic's but the problem still exists. I checked the 3.15 amp fuses 8001-8006.
Double check your soldering job and make sure this set has no surface mounted componets on the Print circuit board side. Also if you did not get a service manual, now it is time to get one. Check what the service manual says you should have on the IC's pins that you just replaced. This can be done with a simple VOM and then check for shorts and the open component
After I got home from work,I ripped into it again tonight.Turns out there are two 5 amp fuses on the G board labled PS5001 and PS5002.Checked both and PS5001 is open. This is the power supply to the (2) STK-392-560.
I think I am getting close to solving my SONY BLUES.
I guess I have to order these through Sony also because safety issues.
To recap for those behind me,the parts are as follows.
IC-8001 and IC-8002 Order (2) STK-392-560 Sony Part #8-749-019-08
PS5001 and PS5002 Order (2) IC LINK SonyPart #1-533-597-31
The two Convergence IC's are the same part #8-749-019-08
The two IC link Fuses are the same part #1-533-597-31
I will order the fuses and post results
Yes these circuit protectors do blow out sometimes when the convergence IC's go.
Try TRITRONICS Inc. for the parts. They are a Sony authorized distributor and carry the Sony parts often at a bettert price. I have used them many times without problems. Parts can be researched there as well. Check their website at TRITRONICSINC.COM using the guest account menu option.
Picked up pico fuses at Fry's Electronics and installed. The the picture is back to normal.
I just want to say THANKYOU to all that responded.
This website is how I corrected the problem.I would still be in the dark if wasn't for all those who give their expert opinion on troubleshooting problems.
I spent about 100.00 dollars on parts.I probably saved two to three hundred dollars.
Thanks Again
Martin
