Ok first off;
Model: Toshiba 61H70
Chassis No. TAC 0068
Manufactured Date 2000
Ok I bought the tv in 2001 and have had it for 5 years no problems at all.
Turned it on yesterday and the screen was all wavey like the vsinc was messed up except all the colors were missalined and such.
So i turned it off found and purchased the Service manual and Schematics for 17 bucks.
I got into the service menu, now of course its a pain to read do to the dual letters and skewing of text. I was able to star adjusting the RCUT and so forth settings back to the default settings. Only thing i found strange is the service manual shows OPT0 and OPT1 but my set going through the settings only has OPT1 and OPT2 no OPT0 . Wasnt too concerned I also did the diagnostic and the power setting says default is 000 but mine is 009 and the Block : MAIN SUB is not green but red. and it says red is N/G.
I have the PDF of the service manual and schematics if anyone needs to look at them.
I'm really not wanting to spend 400-600 dollars for someone to look at it. Basically I can't affoard it at the moment.
But like i stated above i did make some changs and it started looking better it was now down to only two colors off set and the dual lettering and no more waving around. but when i exited out of the service menu and turned off tv, i forgot to press 7. and now for some reason the tv will not turn on. it powers up and in 3 secs its off and the powerled light just blinks.
I have to turn off the surge protector to turn it back on but same thing 3 secs its off and pwr led is blinking again.
If there is away i can fix this without to much trouble I would appreciate any advice.
So to all you savey people here crunch away, :) and let me know what im looking at to get this thing fixed.
ok is there anyone who can help me here. four days and people have looked but no comments. I'd apreciate some advice :)
:) well missed what you said only can guess you took my post as being rude, but that was not my intention.
so i appollagize if it was taken wrong.
Sorry, it got deleted by accident. And NO I did not take it as rude.
Sounds like something in the service menu got a bad code in it. I am sorry to say if this is the case, you will need to change out the EEprom got a wrong amount entered where it should not have been. Your set sounds like it had a problem with the convergence Circuit. when the colors go out of alighnment drasticly, the service manu will not bring it back in. These adjustments are only for when the age and heat makes these adjustments drift slightly. A service manu in these Toshiba's can be a very tough thing to do, as there are a few differant levels. You will probably need to change out the eeprom IC and start all over with every alighnment in the service manual. The service menu is very unforgiving in these cases. i have seen customers ruin a set and cost them over 400 bucks to get this straighten out. If you have no solid state circuit repair experience, call in a trained tech with these TV sets. Good Luck, and let us know how this repair turns out and what you had to do.
ol thanks i had a feeling i messed up the settngs on the chip. now just to find the right part number and hope that the site has it in stock.
ok looked at parts list can you tell me if this is the part i need to order:
QH173 IC, NM24C16EN EEPROm
according to Tritronics this is the part for my model 61H70.
this is the link to the part:
http://www.tritronicsinc.com/cgi-bin/onramp.exe?pgm=itemdet_cs.bbx&id=23905320&custnum=RETAIL&password=1168805669
they have a cheaper part that can be used but the actual part isnt that bad either and they say i can order it even if its not available. let me know dont want to order wrong part.
Thanks for all your help.
Well I would order the original, but thats up to you. To save a few bucks, sometimes comes back and bites you in the butt. And If thats what the service manual says is the IC I reckon it is. I do not have the book on this set.
Chad, the original part is available at http://www.partstore.com for $2.23 + shipping fees. go there and see the enter your part number in the box and you will see it. The correct part number is 23905321. Hope this helps
