I have a 4 yr old Mitsubishi MD3250 32" flat screen TV that has started making an intermittent high pitched noise. Anyone any ideas what is causing this and how I can fix it?
The noise you hear could just be whats called a "singing" coil as this happens on some sets after they age abit and also a few new ones but mostly on older TV's. The coils or the deflection yolk will heat up and expand then cool down many many times. Then the small wire that makes these coils or the yolk will start to vibrate as voltage runs through them at a certain frequency. There is no sure fix for a singing coil except to replace them. i have seen peeps silicon them, but it hardly stays quiet. Also one more thing, I have seen capacitors that are going bad in the power supplies cause the flyback and the switch mode transformers to sing also. The set is 4 years old. I would check first on how much an estimate would cost you first. Good luck, and let us know how you made out.
