It sounds like this set could

It sounds like this set could be at the end of it's useful life.  We will try though and see if you can tweek the focus.  I warn you, that there is alot of high voltage around where we will be adjusting, so do not stray from these directions unless you know about these high voltage safety issues.  First thing is to take off the rear of the TV set.  While your facing the open back of the set, look at the right side and see a large red wire running up to the top of the picture tube.  What that wire is attached to is known as the flyback transformer.  This is what makes all the high voltage inside this TV.  On one of the sides of the flyback, you will see two small adjustment screwslots.  The top one will be marked "S" or say Screen by it, and the other will have an "F" or say Focus by that one.  Take a mirror, get a small straight blade non-metalic screwdriver, and turn on the set, get a good strong signal, and turn off all the color on the TV.  Go behind the set, and carefully turn, slowly, the Focus control till it gets better or worse.  If it does not get any better, try it the other way.  You should notice that by tweeking and rocking the control back and forth, you shouldf find a spot where the picture is at it's best focus.  If you do great.  If this does not seem to help, I'm afraid you will need to get another TV set.  Good Luck, Be careful and let us know how you made out.

Thanks, Larry Dillon.  We tried what you said to do and it worked. The old set is focused perfect. Maybe the tv has a few good more years and us to as we didn't get injured due to the high voltage. I will be sure to tell my friends about your good advice and look you up again if need any more tv repair advice.Smile
