Magnavox TR2510C101 picture problems

Magnavox TR2510C101 chasis 25E501-00aa (1991) suddenly picture became horizontally distorted (Horizontal sync ?). It varies from channel to channel, but is always there.

Any suggestions? Service manual available? Put it out on the curb?

hmm could someone please help

hmm could someone please help us with this problem, i have the same problem, it usually happens when the screen is darker, like when im playing a video game and i would walk into a dark area the screen seems to pull to the right side.  all horizontal.  does this even when just watching cable.

Goofy,

I found the answer to this problem a while back. It was a bad electrlytic capacitor ($2.00 item). in the horizontal circuit. You can see the bad one when you slide out the circuit board, it will at least be "swollen." You can get the needed Capacitor at Allied Electronics. Do a Google search.

I'll post additional specifics if I can find my original solution.

Goofy,

Goofy,

There should be a schematic diagram on the back or inside the back of the TV, that could be helpful, but I believe there are only 2 Electrolytic Capacitors on the circuit board anyway.

The Capacitor is a: 100mfds@200volts Electrolytic. Get the highest temperature rating you can.

It is located behind the flyback transformer (large open transformer) on the circuit board.

You need to de-solder the bad one and solder in the new one. It will last another 10 years.

I hope this helps,

So will this fix the problem

So will this fix the problem that makes the picture look like its too big for the screen also?  I went under the TV menu and went to program then yes and programmed the channels and now it doesnt do it as much. infact hardly any. but the screen still looks too large.

I've never worked on TV's before but i know how to solder, this sounds pretty easy, or how much would it cost to take to  repair center?

   I don't think it will

I don't think it will affect the "Big Picture" problem. The Circuit I referred to is only responsible for the Horizontal synchronizing of the picture. There may be an adjustable resistor and/or capacitor in the Video section of the circuit board to handle that. You'd need that "schematic diagram" that I mentioned in an earlier reply to find that.
