Im sorry, but going into the service menu will not help you. Your going to have to get someone who knows this set to trouble shoot the horizontal deflection circuit, as there is probably a bad capacitor or resistor bad in this set. A service menu does not repair problems in a set, it is there to simply adjust differant settings in the TV set and when something changes like this did, you have to correct the fault first. Also you can really mess up a set with a service menu, if you do not know what all the settings should be. You really should also get a service manual. The service manual is a must for your particular television set. This is NOT the "User Guide" or "Owners Manual" that came with your television. With a manual, you can go step by step with the alighnment. Calibration is not actually all that difficult to perform, but it can be quite technical in nature. A good test might be your VCR clock; if it is still blinking "12:00...12:00...12:00," then you should probably seek a qualified professional and not attempt these procedures yourself. Once you enter service mode the first thing you should do is record all the original values BEFORE you change anything! - This is the only way to restore the television to its original (factory default) state should it become necessary to do so.
Press: [0], [6], [2], [5], [9], [6], then [MENU]
The channels will change, but when you press MENU, the TV will enter the service menu.
Note: The above procedure works only on *SOME* Magnavox TV's
[Menu] = Change Adjustments
To save your changes, press [POWER] on the TV set. "Preset Memory" will appear, then the set will power down.
Note: Before entering service menu mode, make sure you power the TV on, off, and back on from the TV itself (not the remote). This should enable you to use the power-off button on the TV, after you made your changes, allowing you to saving them.
