Sony 27" CRT TV lost its color!

Out of the blue, our 5 year old 27" Sony CRT TV lost color on all channels. My wife swears she didn't touch anything and I think I believe her. As much as I'd like an excuse to swap it out for a new plasma or LCD I'd rather wait a bit. Anyone have any thoughts as to why the color would suddenly go out and, more importantly, is there anything I can do to get the color back? Thanks for any help.

Try unplugging the set for 24

Try unplugging the set for 24 hours and see if it comes back on.  If it does not, are you using ther tuner input or the video input?   If your using the tuner input with a cable box or cable and you have no color, hook up another TV set right next to that TV without the color, to see if the test TV has no color as well.  If that set has no color, then you know you have a problem with the cable or the cable box.  If you do have color, see if there is a video output from the cable box box or use something else on the video input to see if you have color, like a VCR or a DVD player.  If there is color though the Video inputs, most likley your tuner is bad on this set.  Try these suggestions and get back with us, and let us know how you made out.  Good Luck

Thanks Larry. Inexplicably, the color came back on last night. I've no doubt this will happen again and when it does I'll do as you suggest. Thanks again.

Thank you Larry, only that I

Thank you Larry, only that I am living in Punta Cana, and the only guy that fix TVs is Mr. Carlos from Argentina. I will try to take it to him, and I will post again.
Strange thing, while writing this, Blue color came back. Can bad solder connection do that?

Sony Color CRT sets often lose color because of the cable box.

The Sony cable boxes especially just unplug the box and let it reset.

If not call cable for the corret buttons on the box for a reset..

Generally speaking TVs had not lost color in 15  years no matter who made it.

Good Luck.

This 'loss of colour' usually

This 'loss of colour' usually occurs on the modern flat screen tvs which are rarely switched off at the mains and are usually left in standby overnight. A similar problem occurs with computers that are never powered off completely.
Basically the TV needs a 'cold' boot. This means that you should try switching off at the mains for 20 seconds and then switching back on again. This usually sorts out the colour.

I have a Sharp 32" box TV

I have a Sharp 32" box TV (not flatscreen) that loses color after it heats up - sometimes 30 minutes or 2 hours. Sometimes it comes back on, but if I turn off the TV, wait a couple of minutes and turn it back on, I may gain another 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Is this the same issue?

Is it the cable box or my TV? It's 8 years old.
Thanks.
