Our 25" Magnovox (Model #HD2505 C101) recently started becoming distorted at the top and bottom of the screen, especially during brighter scenes. It's been getting worse over the past few days. The brighter the scene, the more distortion covers the screen. I've tried adjusting the brightness, picture, sharpness, everything, but nothing seems to help.
Is my TV finally dying?
Thanks!
I'm not really sure what you mean when you say the top and bottom are getting distorted. I tryed to look up this model, but Magnavox does not have it listed. If the picture is getting smaller and you see thin lines at the top and the bottom, it is probably a fault in the vertical sweep circuit, and or the sweep power supply circuit. These sets have no user replaceable parts inside them, so, depending on the age of the set, will oer should be the deciding factor on if you want to invest in this TV set or simply purchase a newer one. Read this article and see if this helps you out. http://www.techlore.com/article/10602... Happy Holidays and Good Luck, and let us know what you decided to do.
By distorted, I mean that it looks like the picture is being pulled to the side and stretched horizontally at the top or bottom of the screen.
It's also just taken on a new glitch... it doesn;t like being turned off. For about the last 2 weeks it only turned off about half the times we tried...whether with the remote or the switch on the set itself. But as of this evening... it doesn't want to be turned back on.
Is it time to go a-shopping for a new TV?
Thanks!
If this set is as old as I think it is, it is most likly time for a new TV set. I cannot find this model in my data sheets. I have seen a couple of sets that had the same problem as you discribe and they all turned out to have a couple of problems. The stretching was High voltage capacitors in the horizontal sweep correction circuit, and the turning off problem was dried up and bad capacitor(s) in the standby and main power supply. A repair like this should only be done if you have the proper test equipment. Good luck, and let us know how you made out with this set.
