I work for Habitat for Humanity and we get many TV's donated to us to give to our needy famililes. Problem is some of the new ones don't work. I wave one in particular I would love to deliver to a family this Christmas, but there are a few problems. It is a 2002 Hitachi 43FWX20B rear projection tv. It has horizontal lines in the top 3 inches of the screen and about 3 inches on the bottom. Otherwise it is in great condition. The man who brough it to us said it worked fine. When he plugged it in for us, he was shocked to notice the lines. He transported it on its back in his SUV instead of standing it upright. Colr and sound are perfect. Is there any tweeking I could do to fix this? Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Shelly, Sorry to tell you but that set is known for bad capacitors and or a bad vertical output sweep IC. It will run from a shop about 150 to 300 bucks to repair, unless they donate their time. I have seen alot of people donate stuff that they say works, and its mainly larger TV sets, that is hard to dispose of. Im not saying everyone does this but it does happen. I once went to good will to check out a few TV sets and they all were nothing but junk. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas.
Shelly,
Send me mail. One of my "businesses" is to recycle TVs and other electronics to folks who could not otherwise afford them. Depending upon your location, I may be able to help. I have some "recycled" TVs available.
Dan
Good For you DAN! I as well used to do that for needy folks when I had my place in Long Island NY. Very nice of you to offer.
Dan thanks for the reply! I am sorry I am just now getting back to you. I office is in Franklin, Tennessee. Are you anywhere near this area? If so it would be great! Shelly
Thanks for the reply Larry, if you here of anyone in the metro Nashville, Tennessee Area. Please let me know. Thanks!
Shelley, I'm up north from you. Send me an Email and perhaps we can work through the local Habitat chapter. I'm willing to send something down, but unfortunately I am not in a position to ship anything. Perhaps there is a way to exchange items throuth Habitat.
