Hi There, I Have an LG DLP Televistion, Model Number RE-44SZ21RD AKPLKU,it is now two years old, It's working fine but the picture is not as sharp as it use to be. The lamp has still got 8000 hrs left, but I feel i need to let more light through the orifice. I REMOVED THE LAMP AND CLEANED IT WITH ALCOHOL, this has improved the picture slightly but I still would like to allow more light through the orifice. Is This Possible? Your coments would be appreacated, Regards, Tony Goldby.
You can open the reflection area and clean the lens off, but you really should not mess with the optics, as there is simply way to many things that can go wrong. Working or cleaning a light engine or the internal optics is a job only for a tech who is trained to do so. If you have smokers in your house, try like I said, clean the lens. Always keep the filter clean also. Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.
Optical engines aren't really meant to be torn down and cleaned. They were designed to keep as much dirt and dust as possible out but obviously, in extreme situations or with smokers, that isn't possible. DLP and LCD based rear projectors aren't really a good idea for those in high dust/dirt enviroments or those who are heavy smokers.
But it is still possible to clean a lens inside the reflection area on these sets, as I have I have done it. I have also seen a big differance in the picture quility just by wiping off the single outside lens of a light engine.
Hi Larry, Thanks For Your Comments, I Have Also Cleaned The Inside Of The Screen And The Dome Glass, But It Still Isn't As Sharp As It Use To Be, I Feel If I Can Adjust The Apertude to allow in a fraction more light this would do the trick as the tele seems to work fine apart from this fault. By the way Although I've Had All The Covers Off The Telly I've Havn't Noticed Any Filters, Could You Tell Me Where To Look. I Would Of Amagined They Would Be Before The Fans, But On This Set, I Don't Think Any Are Fitted. Looking Foreward To Hearing From You, Regards, Tony Goldby.
