I have a 10 year old Sony Trinitron TV/VCR Combo (Model KV-20VM30). Today I tried to turn it on and the Standby light flashes and I hear a click but the tube doesn't turn on and there's no sound. The strange thing is I was using it earlier in the day and it was fine. I've had some trouble in the past with it such as low volume and dark picture but unplugging it and plugging it back in seemed to fix it. I've left it unplugged for a few hours and it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? Is it worth trying to get it fixed or should I spring for a new TV?
On a ten year old combo? My freind, by all means you can shell out a diagnostic fee for this puppy, but most likly it is going to exceed the cost of another combo or come close to it and with a set this age, you never know what will happen next. My opinion? Toss it, and buy a new holiday present to replace this one. Good Luck, and please let us know what you decide.
I called a local TV Repair place and after explaining what is wrong with it they say it will cost about $150. I have no idea how they know this without looking at it. I have decided to just go for a new one. It's a bedroom TV so I don't need anything too fancy. I can get a 24" refurbished V-Flat Citizen for about $80 Canadian so I might go for that. I don't really want to spend more than $100.
Very smart idea my freind. Good call on your part. And Thanks for letting us know.
The only thing listed in my records is the following:
Check Q1814, it may be intermittant or have failed completely. It should be a 2SA1371. Also, R1837 should be 5.6k and FR1838 should be a 0.68ohm 2W fusible resistor.
Dan, Thanks for the information, unfortunately, I have no idea what it means. But I appreciate the help.

I actually just found this one and will probably get it. $80 Brand new with 3 A/V inputs. I know it's not a top of the line brand but I've read good things about it. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10057551&catid=
EDIT: It also says it has Component Video input but I think that has to be a mistake.
Go for what you think is good, as it seems like a good deal, and dont be afraid to ask about an extended warranty as well.
