HELP! RCA 32V432T cuts off, picture stays on

... plug it in, the red stand-by light is on, push the "power" button, tv then comes on and the stand-by light goes off with volume, etc working fine ... after a short while ( 1 to 10 minutes) the tv will shut off (the stand-by light comes on) and the sound goes off and the volume buttons won't work but the picture stays on, and there is a click sound every so often and when that happens a rainbow of color will be in the picture, then after a second click and a normal picture. If I push either the power or channel buttons the stand-by light will go off and the sound comes back on ( keep in mind the picture will stay on thru all of this, it just goes blue then dark then comes back on).... after a moment or 2 it cuts back off. To turn the picture off I have to unplug it then plug it back in  then it's in stand-by. I'm Laid off and wife is disabled so there's no money to replace or shop-repair it. Got to decide if I can fix it myself ... right now I just let it cut off, and since the picture stays on I've got a 12 inch sitting next to it with the brightness turned off and I use that for the sound.

Sounds like a microprocessor

Sounds like a microprocessor or eeprom problem.  Some of these models had sockets for these IC's and would make the set do all sorts of funny stuff.  The clicking is the deguassing relay and the rainbow effect is the deguassing coil enerzgizing each time the click ocours.  This is not really a job for the handy man my freind.  If you know how to handle static sensitive semiconductors, I woud say take out the sockets and solder the IC's into the board directly.  But in this case I would try to get a bud or someone who understands about these things do this for you..   Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out.
