Hi, I have that plasma for 3 years and suddenly the picture turned green. That is only when I connect a video source. If no source is connected, I have dark screen.
I can see the titles during the dark screen appearing.
Anyone please help...I was a TV technitian and can follow technical instructions.
Thanks!

Sounds like a main board or the sustain driver boards are defective in this display. These are not like the older types of TV sets. Almost every tech I know who services these types of sets do not repair to componet level. They repair these sets to the board level. In my opinion, these are the types of sets, that when an extended warranty is offered, you take it as part of the cost of the TV. You, Im afraid, are going to need to call an authorized JVC servicer, who is going to have a kit of the boards, as most non-authorized shops will not. This way you will not be paying for someones guess as to what board is bad and what board is not. Good Luck, and please keep us informed with the progress of this repair.
I apreciate your quick response. So, I can not fix it myselfe...And think that a repair will cost few hundreds...I'll call JVC and let the forum know what happened. Isn't it any way to find the electronic diagram? Or some common problems repair?
Thanks again.
Not unless you want to buy a service manual and want to get several thousand dollars worth of test equipment. The Techs, or most of them, do not repair these boards.
HI Larry, I just connected the VGA connection to the PC and it works fine! Other video inlets produce Green screen. I assume it is a faulty switching chip or SVHS/Composite circuit. Do you know someone that has the service manual? I have an oscilloscope and can handle the fault if I will get some help.

You're going to need to replace the "main signal board" in that thing. Most of that signal gets up converted to digital so troubleshooting with a scope is worthless. Not to mention, service manuals for Plasma TV's don't have very good circuit breakdowns of individual boards. The info is hard to read and they don't provide waveforms, voltages or even signal flow through the various IC's. I'm not even sure why it's provided, even the manufacturers change the boards vs. troubleshooting them. They're just not designed for that.
So, will I be able to purchase that board and install it myselfe, or should give the board to repair?
Purchace the board, and see if there is a dud or whats called a core charge on the board.
Hi Larry, I give up - The board cost is $530 plus tax (They R Carzy).
I did purchase a TV box (Converter from composite and tv tuner to VGA and it works fine. Cost: $60 at Fryse.
Thanks,
Avi
I am glad to hear you worked your way around the fault. Thanks for posting your results, as maybe will help someone else with the same problem. Happy Holidays.
I HAVE AN LG 50" PLASMA. The color became distorted, horizontal colored lines across the screen. Worse the longer it was on, then all of a sudden it started clearing up. Now the picture is perfect again and has been for a few days now.
Any thoughts as to why? oh yes, done this both on cable and dvd player.
Thanks
