RCA F32649

my rca f32649 warranty just ran out 3 months ago the tv is only 4 years old the cable wire is hooked up directly to the back of the set no cable box is needed for basic cable in my area. anyway i receive all channel except 2 thru 7. all other cable channels come in fine i hooked up another tv to the same cable and all channel work on that tv. this just happened over night. has anyone heard of this ever happening if so what may it be and if a handy guy as myself would be able to fix and how much the parts might cost.

thanks,

Probably the tuner or it

Probably the tuner or it could be a gemstar module if that set has one.

if it is the tuner or gemstar

if it is the tuner or gemstar is that something an amatuer can install if so what does either pc cost

Have you tryed to do an auto

Have you tryed to do an auto channel programming from the menu yet.  I had the same problem once, as I had a brownout and irt scrambled the memory.. best thing to do first, would be to unplug the set for 10 to 15 minutes.  Go into the menu, do a channel search, and everything should be OK.  If its not, maybe the gemstar needs to be reprogrammed or the tuner is bad.  Good Luck, and let us know how you made out.

Most likly a tuner thats bad.

Most likly a tuner thats bad.  At this stage, can you replace a tuner assembly.  There are no user replacable parts inside this TV set, as everything is soldered into place.  Do you have a meter and a schematic of this TV?  I would first check to make sure the set is switching between channel bands, as there are several other componets that could cause this.

leonarda
how can i check to see that

how can i check to see that the tv is switcdhing channel bands

Your going to need a service

Your going to need a service manual.  Look on the manual for the switching pins on the tuner, and see what should be where and at what channel.  Best thing to do is replace the tuner.
