2 inch horizantal blank space across Pioneer PDP 4304

I have a Pioneer PDP 4304 plasma display monitor that is 14 months old that has a two inch wide blank space horizantally across screen. I took it to a authorized service shop that kept the monitor for 4 weeks, they finally told me I needed to replace the screen at a cost of $1600. The warranty was for 12 months and it seem to be a waste to spend that amount of money with plasma monitors costing $1299 now. Just looking for some advice or options. Thanks in advance.

What's happened is one of the buffer driver IC's has failed.  Those IC's, which used to be replaceable are now only replaceable by a Pioneer Plasma panel repair station.  That's not the same as an authorized service center.  Have you tried contacting the Pioneer customer service center on this?  You might be able to get them pay for this since a panel shouldn't be failing like this this early in the sets life, especially considering the cost of the Pioneer to begin with.
