Audio Dropouts

Hi All,

I have a Mitsubishi Console Model CK-2585R. It is from 1985! I have recently noticed that I am receiving audio channel dropouts on the left channel. It sometimes gets a static sound and then just shuts off. Other times it just shuts off and then on by itself, without static. Any ideas?? Many thanks....Bobby

Your problem, since this TV

Your problem, since this TV set has so much history behind it, could be the power supply capacitors are finally giving up.  The audio IC is saying its very very tired.  Could be a combination of both as well.  My freind, Unless you have the know how to service solid state electronics, consider yourself VERY lucky you have got the service this TV set has delivered to you.  To invest anything to fix this set, would be in my opinion, a big waist of time, as well as money.  You have a set that lasted you over 20 years!  Its time to invest in a new TV my freind.  Let me just inform you, MANY MANY peeps would kill to get their TV to last 20 years.  The biggest problem with repairing an older set is, as soon as the back is taken off, the tech can cause many problems , as these circuits are used to being left alone and are very  stiff in their ways.  LOL Im just trying to say that the TV chassis is most likly, so brittle, that as soon as you touch it, or try to service the printed circuit board, it will start to crack and cause all sorts of problems.  My freind, its time, I'm sorry to say, to put this puppy to rest.  I mean 20 years , WOW!   Go out and purchsce an early holiday gift for yourself.  Good Luck to you

Hi Larry,

Hi Larry,

You make some VERY valid points! I used it yesterday and it was fine - go figure!! I have noticed that sometimes (and not in concert with the audio problems) the picture gets slightly lighter and then back to the original darkness. As you say, this would lend more credence to the posible power supply problem! Time for HDTV? I'm just not sure if I should go Plasma or LCD. Also have a garage door (16') that is close to it's useful end so Santa will probably get "mugged" this year as far as the TV goes....have a wonderful and healthy holiday season and thank you for the speedy reply.
