My RCA Universal remote quit on me...
Hello, I read many posts about remotes and none of them fit mine but if I'm wrong, please forgive.
I bought a Panasonic TV with an RCA RCR450 Universal Remote from a neighbor who moved out. The TV works perfectly. The remote worked fine for a few months, but now it just stopped functioning, but the indicator light is on when pressing any key...but the remote is still not responding. I can watch the TV nicely by turning it on manually from the TV set, and can switch all channels beautifully and quickly throughh my VCR. But if I want to use the timer to tape, I need the TV remote.
I went to RCA website and copied down the Panasonic TV codes...but I don't know how to insert those codes. I pointed at the TV, I tried to follow their instructions, I pressed the TV button, entered those codes one by one...but nothing happened!
Would anyone know what is the procedure for those blessed codes? I'd like to try it before I have to buy another one which I'm not sure if it's worth it...
Thanks so much for any help. Adela
P.S. In case I'm not describing this well, here's the RCA website link:
And this is what I don't understand:
If Code Entry method was used to enter the codes for your brand and the unit is still not functioning properly, try one of the Code Search methods instead.
Thanks again! :-)

Since the remote used to work

Since the remote used to work, reason would suggest that the code for your Panasonic TV is in there, but you're either not programming it properly, or the code for your TV is not listed as a Panasonic code.

I'd retry all the Panasonic codes to make this easier on you. I'll try to simplify the programming steps for you:

 1. Turn on your TV
 2. Press and HOLD DOWN the TV button at the top of the remote. Don't let go of it.
 3. While pressing the TV button down, type in the 4 digit code on the remote. The LED light will turn off while entering the code, but will turn back on after you enter the last number.
 4. Release the TV button. If the remotes LED light turns off, you put in the code correctly.
 5. Try out some functions to test the remote. If nothing happens repeat the process with a new code.

The Code Search function lets you test the power command of every code it sequentially. If the codes listed for your brand don't work, you can see if there is any compatible code in the remote.

 1. Turn on the TV
 2. Press and hold the TV key. The LED indicator light turns on and remains on.
 3. While holding the TV key, press and hold the ON·OFF key. The LED indicator light will turn off.
 4. Continue holding down both keys. After holding down both keys for three seconds, the LED indicator light turns back on.
 5. Release both keys. The LED indicator light remains on.
 6. Aim the remote at the TV, and press and release the power key repeatedly until your TV turns off. Each time you press the power key, the LED indicator light blinks, and the next code in the list is sent. This process continues until all of the codes have been searched.
 7. When your TV turns off, you have found the correct code. Immediately press the stop button when your TV turns off and that code will be retained.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

If your component’s brand isn

If your component’s brand isn’t listed in the Code Lists, or if you have tried all of the codes for your brand and the remote does not operate your component, try the Manual Code Search. This Code Search method cycles through all of the codes in the Code Lists in the event that your component’s code is listed under another brand.  The Manual Code Search method may take a long time because the remote searches through all of the codes in its memory for the code that operates your component.  Therefore, if your brand is listed in the Code Lists, first try the Direct Code Entry method described on page 4.

Page 4 reads: 1. Manually turn on the component you want the remote to control (TV, VCR, DVD, satellite receiver or cable box).

Note: If you press an invalid key during the Manual Code Search, the remote does not respond and the LED indicator light does not blink. If you do not press a valid Manual Code Search key (TV, VCR, DVD, SAT·CBL, ON·OFF, GO BACK), the search times out after two minutes. When the search times out, the LED indicator light blinks four times and turns off. The last programmed code under that component key is retained.

2. Press and hold the component key (TV, VCR, DVD, SAT·CBL) you wish to program. The LED indicator light turns on and remains on.

3. While holding the component key down, press and hold the ON·OFF key. The LED indicator light turns off.

4. After holding down both keys for three seconds, the LED indicator light turns back on.

 5. Release both keys. The LED indicator light remains on. Throughout the programming of each key, be sure to keep the remote pointed at the IR sensor of the component you are currently programming the remote to control.

6. Press and release the ON·OFF key repeatedly until your component turns off. Each time you press the ON·OFF key, the LED indicator light blinks, and the next code in the list is sent. This process continues until all of the codes in the Code Lists have been searched. If your component turns off, you have found the correct code. (If it cycles through and the LED indicator light blinks four times and turns off, all codes have been searched. The Manual Code Search method is exited.) Because there are so manycodes, you may have to press theON·OFF key many times—possibly up to 200 times.

7. Once you have found the correct code, you must save the new code by pressing and releasing the STOP key. The LED indicator light turns off. You must press the STOP key to save the code or the correct code will not be stored!

8. Once you press the STOP key, thecode is stored.

LOL!  Oh you are both

LOL!  Oh you are both simpaticos!!!  Hello and thank you so much Matt and Larry!  You both explained it so clearly that I tried the manual method and it worked!!!  They say 2 heads think better than one...and you both did it!  I'm so happy, I knew there was still life in that little electronic monster!  But didn't know how to awaken it.  I don't know how it happened that the remote had stopped working, but I'm copying your great explanations so when it happens again I'll be able to correct it.

Now all the keys are working on this remote, except 2 little things that perhaps you could tell me?

(1)  In trying to set my timer, I went to the "Menu", and to "Timer" and when I pressed "OK" for the Timer, this OK button didn't work.

(2)  It won't change channels whether jumping them or pressing them consecutively, it makes the screen all grayed out/snowy, but I learned to revert that screen by pressing on the set the "TV/VCR" button.

Other than these, all the other buttons work fine.  Is there a fairly easy solution?  If not, it's ok since I can change the channels with my VCR remote.  Though I can't set my timer without the OK button...or can I?

Thanks a lot again!   Smile    Adela

P.S.  Okay, Matt, I found the "Go" button here, but...wonder what happened to the "Preview" button?  :-)

There could be more then one

There could be more then one setting, even on the manual search. What you do is redo the search, when the TV turns off manually quickly turn the set back on with the front panel button, then proceed to find another code. If that one does not work redo the search again, and find another code if there is one. I once, for a Sanyo set, had to do this three times, till I found one that worked the volune and the channels correctly. You may not, with a universal remote, be able to use some functions. Sorry to inform you about this remote, but I used to have one too, I got rid of it as it statrted to lose the TV programming only every week or so. Dont know why but it did. Good Luck and Happy Holidays to you and yours.
