F 06 displayed on Panasonic VCR with jammed tape

Our Panasonic vcr (model NV-HD675B) has stopped working after a tape has become stuck inside. We believe it may be the eject function as we can press this button; the machine appears to be doing something (noises can be heard, but not pleasant ones) and then it seems to give up. We can get the tape to play, but the machine seems to have destroyed it as the image only appears as black and white streaks, the sound remains intact. When not attempting to work the machine, it displays the code 'F 06' our manual says that this is a self-diagnosis number referring to a specific problem that can only be understood by a dealer. However I am sure someone else must have the information that tells us what this means, even if it is only that the ejector function is broken. Please can someone advise us how to remove the tape.
