Hi All,
My Mitsubishi vs-5061 has a problem. The screen looks like what I would call a bowtie. I have read that the stk390's need to be replaced. But before I take the whole TV apart, I need to know where-a-bouts this is. Would it be on one of the boards or would it possibly be near the tubes?
Thanks for all the help,
Scott
First thing you are going to need to get a service manual Here. This will show you and help you find any other little things you are going to need to do. You may also need to do analighnment after you replace the IC's The IC's are black, about a 3"X5" rectangle, and have STK 392-110 written on them. You can get the IC's if you need them Here You do not need to get the expensive JVC part, but the panasonic IC part number C5AA00000108 will work fine. Also do not forget to use alot of heat sink grease on the back of the new IC's before you tighten them back down to the heat sink, or you will need to replace them all over agin in a few months. Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out.
Hi Larry,
I finally replaced the IC's. There were actually two stk391-020 ic's.
After I put them in, only the left side of the picture was back to where it should be, but the right side looked the same. Also, I could smell a burning. Could it be the Hetas Sink greas that smells?
There is a third IC, I believe it's a 4274(?) IC. Should that also be replaced?
Thanks Larry,
Scott
Feel the ICs and make sure ones not getting alot hotter then the other as one could be bad. Also there could be a burnt resistor in the set. Did you get the service manual?
Hi Larry,
I finally got back to this... I did get the manual finally. I replaced a bad resistor on the red side. So now the color on the tv looks real good. But I am still getting what I call 'The bowtie' effect. Any more hints on what could be causing this?
Thanks Larry,
Scott
If your getting a bow tie effect, then most likly your missing a voltage on the convergence IC, or the convergence power supply. Measure the + and -(plus and minus) DC voltages on the IC's to see how they look.
Thanks Larry, I'm thinking it might be the convergence power supply. I should've mentioned on my last post that it takes at least a minute to get a picture after I turn it on.
Thanks again.
Scott
Yea, your gonna have to check your work really carefully, as I know how easy it is to make a mistake and cause a small solder bridge across those small pins of the IC.
Hi am I getting a pincushion effect on my 5061. Adjusting helps a little but doesn't remove. Convergence is ok(needs a small adjustment np) but the top & bottom centers are pulled in?
Ideas?
You may need new convergence Integrated Circuits, do you have any solid state experiance or know how to solder?
