Problem Connecting PC to LCD TV.

Hi, I just recently purchased a Sharp LC-26D7U LCD tv and want to connect my sony laptop to it via DVI. However my laptop only has a VGA port. I bought a VGA to DVI cable and I get a picture on the TV but it is just my desktop image. There are no icons and no programs pop up when I click them, just a blank desktop. The weird thing is when I restarted my computer the windows screen popped up at the very beginning. I downloaded the graphics driver and adjusted the resolution but still no icons. Can someone please help me out. TIA!

Your computer is operating in

Your computer is operating in "extended desktop mode". It configures your desktop to span two displays, so you can drag windows to the second monitor. Under settings in the display properties, highlight the second monitor and disable the "Extend my desktop" checkbox, and it should mirror your desktop on both displays. You may have additional options depending on the video hardware and drivers in your computer.
